How to check a U.S. car before importing it

A practical VIN checklist for international buyers importing used cars from the United States.

Start with the VIN identity

Before comparing price or shipping cost, confirm that the VIN matches the year, make, model and body style advertised by the seller.

Look for title and salvage risk

A low auction price can be connected to salvage, rebuilt, flood or total-loss history. A full report and independent inspection are both important.

Do not rely only on photos

Photos can be old, cropped or taken before damage. Auction and sale history can help when available from a licensed data provider.
