How to check a U.S. car before importing it

Before importing a U.S. vehicle, decode the VIN and compare the result with the listing, title documents and auction information. A complete report may help you review title brands, odometer readings, accident or damage records, auction history and photos when available.

Checklist

• Confirm the 17-character VIN and decoded vehicle identity.
• Ask for title documents and compare names, VIN and title state.
• Review salvage, rebuilt, flood or junk title-brand signals.
